Former Pirate robs Phantoms 2 in Slough

Nineteen years after backstopping Pirates at Bretton, netminder Chris “Disco” Douglas was still making all the right Saturday night moves with a 98% save percentage to foil Phantoms in Slough.

It was a night of missed opportunities for Stevie Johnson’s side as they failed to convert a 54-32 shot advantage and numerous powerplay, including several double powerplay, opportunities as the Jets veteran 38 year old cageman stood firm.

At the other end of the ice, Phantoms also struggled to hold on to the proven talents and physical presence of former top EPL forward Lukas Smital who grabbed 2+1 on the night with both goals helping to serve up a 3-0 advantage by the 21 minute mark. After that, it became the Chris Douglas show as Phantoms rained in 24 shots on goal in the middle period alone but failed to make any count.

It took until 53:54 for Jarvis Hunt to score from Jack Escott and Taylor Romeo but despite playing most of the remaining minutes 5on4, they were unable to make further inroads into Jets lead which was further extended with a short handed marker as Phantoms threw several kitchen sinks at the Jets goal.

A frustrating night for Phantoms who remain fourth in NIHL2 South and will be back in action on home ice against Guildford on Sunday 11th March, face-off at 5:30pm.
