Penguins Return to Action on Sunday

After a break of five weeks, Peterborough Penguins return to WD1 South action this Sunday with a 330 mile round trip to Gosport to take on the Solent Amazons.

During their break, other teams in the league have edged ahead of our girls in what is an incredibly tight league with only four points separating 3rd from 9th. With games in hand, Penguins will be looking to bounce back into the top half of the table with a road win against a side they have already beaten 9-2 at Bretton in early January.

Solent are on a poor run of five straight defeats but, as with the Cardiff side who defied league position to beat Penguins in their last game, the Amazons are proving more than competitive, not least in their last game where they only lost 2-4 to league leaders Basingstoke and were leading 2-1 at one point. They are a low scoring side but make up for that with an excellent netminder in Phoebe Shavelar who has backstopped Amazons to a goals against average of less than three per game.

There’s good and not so good news from the Penguins camp. Steph Owen, fresh from recent Varsity success with Cambridge University, returns as netminder which frees up stand-in Carmel Buttimer to play in a more familiar outfield position and Stacie Horn returns after recovering from the dislocated shoulder she picked up from a brutal boarding down at Streatham. The bad news is that free scoring Leah De Mar misses out with a cracked rib picked up in the last game against Cardiff.

Good luck girls ! #GoPenguins
