Sunday Lowdown – Phantoms v Streatham

Fixture

Sunday:  Phantoms v Streatham – Face-Off 5:30pm

Competition ?

NIHL1 South + NIHL Cup Qualifying

What’s at Stake ?

Along with the other Autumn Cup sides Swindon and Basingstoke, Phantoms are lagging behind the pack in terms of league action with the top sides already having 6/7/8 games under their belts compared to the Phantoms two games. The fixture also doubles up as Phantoms first home qualifying game in the NIHL Cup (Saturday’s road game at Basingstoke is our first qualifying fixture).

Current Form ?

Phantoms:  WLWDW

Steatham:  LLWWW

Streatham Players to Watch ?

Familiar faces include ex-Phantoms Damien King in goal, Ben Russell on D and Leigh Jamieson and Thomas Soar up front albeit Jamieson has been playing in his stronger position of D in recent games.

The scourge of many a Phantoms team, Adam Carr, continues to put up good numbers with 4+7 from their six league fixtures to date but Canadian college hockey recruit, Alex Roberts at 6′ 3″ is leading the way with 6+6. Leigh Jamieson at 0+7 is clearly an influential playmaker and, no doubt, returns to Bretton with a point to prove and we all know that Damien King, on his day, is capable of winning games single handed !

What to Expect ?

Streatham have strengthened over the summer with some key players inbound and they also skate with two Canadian forwards on their roster. Their start to the season has seen them only lose by one goal at in-form Bracknell and Romford and they then went on to reverse those results with impressive home wins over both so its another real tough test for Phantoms who will need a repeat of last weekend’s form to take the points in this one ….. expect another tight but exciting game !
