Any hopes of a miracle on ice second leg fightback for Phantoms NIHL2 side in the second leg of their play-off quarter final tonight lasted a mere 109 seconds before the Bartlett brothers set about dismantling what was left of Phantoms season. Love them or loathe them, the tenacious twins deliver the goods with a combined 3+2 on Saturday night at Bretton and 4+4 tonight on borrowed ice in Romford.
2-0 down and 11-4 down on aggregate, Phantoms one glimmer of hope came courtesy of a Connor Stokes delayed penalty goal at 12:34 which at least kept Chieftains advantage on the night down to a single goal at the first break but two more goals in the first five minutes of the second killed off what was probably a largely dead game already.
The home side added one more before the second break and three more in the final period to finish 17-5 victors over the two legs.
Just the five goals from more than 80 shots on goal probably highlights Phantoms main problem over the weekend. Their chance conversion rate was way behind that of the Chieftains who only had two more shots in the six periods for their 17 goals.
