Phantoms winning streak continued on Saturday night with an impressive win on the road in Streatham.
After an early end to end flourish, Phantoms settled to put all the pressure on King in the home goal but it took a 15:47 powerplay marker from Martins Susters on a Ben Russell slashing call to break the deadlock and give Phantoms a one goal lead at the break.
Period two saw Phantoms slide through the gears to lay siege on King’s goal with two quick goals from Petr Stepanek and Corey McEwen forcing the home side to call a thirty second timeout on 26 minutes. The break did little to stem the tide as Phantoms immediately made it 0-4 courtesy of an unassisted Glenn Billing effort just before the game’s midpoint. The middle period ended with Streatham D-man Michael Farn taking a 5+Game call for butt ending to leave Phantoms a man up going into the final twenty.
There was no further scoring on the powerplay but, shortly afterwards, Martins Susters made it 0-5 and four minutes later completed his hat-trick to put Phantoms home and dry on 0-6. Streatham cruelly stole Jordan Marr’s shutout with a consolation goal just 41 seconds from time but it was a well deserved and hugely impressive win for Phantoms who face the first of their crucial six-game series with Swindon Wildcats on Sunday evening.
Beers for Phantoms went to netminder Jordan Marr.
