Phantoms 2 Go Five from Six with Win over Invicta !

Phantoms 2 made it five wins out of six on Saturday evening with an all-action 6-2 victory at Bretton against the visiting Invicta Mustangs.

Shaun Yardley got Phantoms off to a flyer, profiting from an early powerplay opportunity to put Phantoms ahead and that advantage was doubled by the first break with Conor Pollard bagging an unassisted goal on 13:40.

Period two saw Phantoms running into penalty trouble with five minors and one major penalty giving netminder Dan Lane plenty to keep him busy but coupled with an impressive penalty killing performance, Phantoms limited the damage to a sole even-handed goal at 26:58 which they then cancelled out just short of the buzzer with Conor Pollard notching his second of the game from James Pentecost.

It was the Mustangs who got the crucial jump in the final twenty with Jake Stedman grabbing his second of the night with just 26 seconds on the period clock. The visitors had all the momentum with Dan Lane the busier of the two netminders but an unassisted Nick Alley marker on 45:12 gave Phantoms some crucial breathing space and the same player killed the game with another unassisted effort on 51:07 to take his side 5-2 clear.

A late powerplay goal from Clint Herring closed the scoring but the fans still had time to enjoy a late tilt between Jack Sansby and Mustang’s Bradley Gutridge !

Phantoms MOM went to Kenny Bavin.

Phantoms are back in action next Sunday on the road in Swindon where they should be looking for another maximum haul against a side yet to register a point this season.
