Phantoms found the going tough in tonight’s home encounter against Solent Devils, never slipping out of contention but always second best in a game that saw them outshot to the tune of 19-45.
It was Phantoms who got the early jump when Connor Pollard profited from an early powerplay to fire home but Devils tied the game on 8:01 through former Wightlink Raider Richard Facey. The scores stayed level through to the game’s midpoint when Campbell put Devils ahead, a lead that was doubled late in the period when Alex Murray fired home from Facey’s pass.
Phantoms needed the next goal in period three but it was still the Devils who were looking the more likely. In the end, it was a Nick Alley powerplay marker on 54:39 that gave Phantoms hope albeit with little time left and their efforts to boss the run down were scuppered by an elbows call on Jack Sansby at 55:03 which was swiftly punished by Alex Murray to close the game out 2-4 in Devils favour.
Home side beers went to Jack Sansby.
Phantoms are next in action on Saturday at home to struggling Haringey where they’ll be looking to snap their three game losing streak.
