Phantoms 2 Hang Tough to Defeat Phoenix

Phantoms 2 pulled off a superb nail-biting win on the road against Guildford Phoenix tonight to open up a three point gap over their Surrey rivals in fourth place in the NIHL2 South.

A powerplay marker from D-man Craig Wallis gave Phantoms the edge in the opening period and a Conor Pollard goal just after the game’s midpoint made it 0-2 but the daylight faded after less than two minutes as Michael Krogh pulled one back to set up a tense final twenty.

The third period exploded into life after just 1:52 when a Connor Hunter slash kicked off a punch up that saw Hunter sit out a 2+2+2 while Guildford’s Bailey Wootton sat out a 2+2 for the fight. Phantoms rode out the penalty kill along with further heroic stands later in the period after calls on Leon Groom and Brad Moore. Phoenix outshot Phantoms 13-4 in the final twenty but Dan Lane held firm to see out the narrow but impressive win.
