A last gasp penalty shot winner from Nick Alley rescued the points for Phantoms 2 at Haringey after they had very nearly grabbed an unlikely defeat from the jaws of victory !
Leon Groom put Phantoms ahead with an unassisted goal with just 3:24 on the clock and Ray Almgren doubled the advantage at 6:35. Both netminders were kept busy in an end to end opening period but Phantoms had the edge in converting chances and Nick Alley made it 0-3 at 15:59 to take his side well clear by the first break.
A second Leon Groom marker should have killed off the Huskies but two goals inside five minutes from the midpoint kept them interested going into the final period. Phantoms really didn’t want to cough up an early goal in the last twenty but Huskies needed just over two minutes to make it 3-4 and set up a tense run-in which Phantoms coped with admirably until 52 seconds from the final buzzer when Huskies 6′ 4″ captain Ben Osborne completed his hat-trick to take the game to overtime.
Both sides had decent chances in the 3on3 but both blanked to take it to penalty shots where Nick Alley came up with the game winning penalty shot to secure the points for Phantoms …… albeit the hard way !
