After a frustrating home defeat in their opening NIHL2 South fixture last weekend, Phantoms certainly got the wheels turning on their new campaign with a 17-2 rout of early season whipping boys Lee Valley Lions on the road Saturday evening. An overall shots on goal deficit of 16-82 was never going to end well for the home side who had already sucked up a 1-14 thrashing at Chelmsford the previous weekend !
Top scorers for the Phantoms were Conor Pollard with 5+3 followed by debutante Nick Alley whose 4+4 return was particularly painful for the Lions as he’d been their captain for the last three campaigns. Sam Dean picked up a brace inside the last seven minutes with single goals from Craig Ellis, Shaun Yardley, Jack Sansby, Jordan Liddell, Connor Hunter and Jack Samal.
Next Saturday, Phantoms travel down to Oxford for what will be a far sterner challenge against the #1 ranked side in the division, face off at 5:15pm.
