It was a case of smash and grab for Phantoms on the Streatham High Road tonight as early goals from Will Weldon and Nathan Salem were enough to bag two more vital points in the title race.
It took Phantoms just 1:53 to grab what was to turn out to be the “game winning goal” as Will Weldon scored unassisted and Nathan Salem jumped on an Ales Padelek feed at the 13 minute mark to double the lead. After that, the game was end to end but goalless with both netminders taking over star billing with, for the second night running, Phantoms regularly indebted to Euan King for keeping their narrow lead intact.
Both netminders picked up the MOM beers.
Basingstoke Bison picked up a regulation 9-0 home win over basement boys Cardiff while Swindon went down to a rejuvenated Bracknell Bees with Frankie Bakrlik back on board to completely end their title aspirations.
