Pollard the Overtime Hero in Phantoms 2 Victory !

If the Phantoms first team’s win was dramatic then the Phantoms NIHL2 side were not far behind in securing an overtime double over Swindon for Club Phantoms !

In a very even game, it was the Wildcats who opened the scoring on 12:16 through Jack Goodchild and just over two minutes into the second period, it was 2-0 to the home side after Jake Williams fired home at 22:29. Phantoms eventually got a foothold in the game on 33:25 when Conor Pollard scored unassisted but a resolute Wildcats held their lead through to the second break.

A string of penalties on the home side in the third gifted Phantoms nearly six minutes of extra man advantage but still they couldn’t break through to tie the game. In the end it was down to captain James Pentecost to feed Conor Pollard with just 2:37 left on the game and the Phantoms sharpshooter at last beat Landells in the Wildcats goal to draw things level and take the game to overtime.

Wildcats had the edge in the 3on3, firing five shots on Dan Lane who kept them all out but it was Phantoms who grabbed the extra point with their only shot on goal in the overtime period, courtesy of a hat-trick marker from Conor Pollard on 62:29 with assists from Rob McDonald and Clint Herring.

The win takes Phantoms to five wins from the last six games and moves them up to 8th place in NIHL South 2. Their next fixture comes next Saturday at Bretton, face-off 6:15pm, when the league leaders Chelmsford Chieftains are in town which is always a game worth seeing !
